Functions and Duties
The Company is engaged in the business of Generating Electricity using Renewable Source of Energy (Hydro, Solar, Wind etc), Supply and trading of Eco-Friendly Power to the State Grids/Discoms. It has got capabilities to undertake all the activities from conceptualisation to Commissioning in relation to setting up of Hydropower Projects.
Being Environment Conscious, the Company Nurtures the ‘Nature’ in the Office Complex, Power Stations and Projects and undertake various CSR Activities. The Corporation is ethically and socio- economically responsive, follows the applicable guidelines, norms laid down from time to time, ensure the well being of its employees, addresses Stakeholders Concerns and is committed to maintain highest standards of quality and dignity while discharging its duties.

The Powers and duties of Officers and Employees for discharging functions emanates from Memorandum and Articles of Association and as defined in the Manuals, Delegation of Powers, Operating Procedures, Code of Ethics and Conduct Rules of the Corporation. (Click for Roles and Responsilities.)

The Procedure followed in the decision making process, including channels of supervision and accountability
Functional Decisions are being taken at various levels depending upong the requirement, need and in the interest of the Corporation as per the powers delegated in the DoP(Delegation of Powers) for proper discharge of functions. However, Major decisions related to the Company are being taken by the Board and the same is communicated for implementation by all at the downbelow as shown under :

The Norms are contained in the Delegation of Powers, Manuals, Provisions under Various Statutes for its Compliance, Guidelines issued by Department of Public Enterprises, Central Vigilance Commission , listing Agreement of Stock Exchanges and rules and regulations of SEBI for smooth Operations of the Company.

Being a Commercial Organization, there is no formal committee or forum where representatives of the public can attend to formulate Policies. NHPC, however, has interface with various Parliamentary Committees. In addition, facility has been provided at NHPC website www.nhpcindia.com for addressing queries from the public.

Meetings of the Boards, Committees and other bodies are not open to the Public or the minutes of such meetings are not made accessible for public as the nature of business of NHPC is that of a strategic establishment.

As such NHPC does not have any subsidy schemes/programmes for public. Most of NHPC’s operating power stations are located in remote rural areas which are socio-economically backward and deficient in the basic civic amenities. NHPC, as responsible corporate citizen has been addressing the issue of community development in the neighbourhood areas of its stations, which had been impacted due to establishment of the project. NHPC is also conscious about the need for socio-economic development of SC/ST community, the under privileged and needy segments in the neighbouring areas.
NHPC has framed “Corporate Social Responsibility Policy “under which NHPC allocates funds to various stations for carrying out community development work in the area of health, education, drinking water and peripheral development.

NHPC does not grant any concession, permits or authorization.

Sub-Section (xv)
The particulars of facilities available to citizens for obtaining information, including the working hours of a library or reading room, if maintained for public use;
A person who desires to obtain any information under the Right to Information Act, 2005 may make a request preferably in the application format in writing or through electronic means to the Public Information Officer/Assistant Public Information Officer.
Application Fee
In accordance to directive given in the Gazette notification issued by Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, Govt. of India, vide no. 34012/8(s)/2005-Estt.(B) dated 16.09.2005, the application for obtaining information under sub-section (1) of section 6 must be accompanied by prescribed application fee drawn in favour of NHPC limited, payable at the local office where the application has been submitted. At present the application fee, which is subject to change from time to time, is as under:-
Application Fee : Rs 10/-
Mode of payment :
By cash against proper receipt or by demand draft/banker’s Cheque/ Indian Postal Order/online Payment at online portal.
Persons who belong to BPL category are not required to pay any fee provided necessary documents are produced in support of their claim.
Additional Fee
In case it is decided to provide the information, the applicant shall be informed of the additional fees, if any, required to be deposited by him/her for the information sought and information shall be furnished after the deposit of the fee by the application, as per the Act.
In accordance with directives given in the above mentioned Gazette notification dated 16/09/2005, for providing the information under sub-section 7, of the Act an additional fee shall be charged. At present, the applicable rates, which are subject to change from time to time, are given as under:-
Appeal
In case the Requester who does not receive a decision within the time specified in sub-section (1) of clause (a) of sub-section (3) of section 7 of the Act or is aggrieved by decision of the Central Public Information Officer, as the case may be, may within thirty days from the expiry of such period from the receipt of such a decision, prefer an appeal to the First Appellate Authority for redressal of the grievance.

Presently NHPC does not have any Library Facility for general public.

Appeal
