NHPC Signs MoU with Government of Bihar to invest Rs. 5500 Crore in Solar Energy and Green Hydrogen Projects
Continuing the march towards promotion of sustainable development of energy and efforts to ensure energy for everyone, NHPC Limited (a Navratna enterprise of Govt. of India) and Department of Industries, Govt. of Bihar exchanged ‘Intent for Investment’ MoU during the ongoing Bihar Business Connect 2024 (Global Investor Summit) at Patna on 20.12.2024. The MoU was exchanged between Shri R.K. Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC and Smt. Bandana Preyashi, IAS, Secretary, Department of Industries, Govt. of Bihar in the august presence of Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Hon’ble Minister of Energy and Planning & Development Department, Govt. of Bihar and Shri Nitish Mishra, Hon’ble Minister of Department of Industries and Tourism, Govt. of Bihar.Through this MOU, NHPC has submitted intent to develop 1000 MW Solar Energy and Green Hydrogen (GH2) mobility pilot projects in Bihar through an investment of Rs. 5500 crore. These transformative projects aim to advance the state's renewable energy goals and contribute towards the energy transition efforts in India.
In addition to promoting clean energy, the initiative is expected to create approximately 800 employment opportunities, fostering socio-economic growth and empowering local communities. This collaboration underscores NHPC's commitment to sustainability and innovation while supporting Bihar's vision of becoming a hub for renewable energy and green technology.
NHPC Limited is the largest hydropower development organization in India with capabilities to undertake all the activities from conceptualization to commissioning of hydro projects. NHPC has also diversified in the field of Solar & Wind energy development etc. NHPC's total installed capacity is 7232.90 MW including 1681.70 MW in Joint Venture, comprising 6971.20 MW from 22 Hydro Power Stations, 211.70 MW from five Solar Power Projects and 50 MW from a Wind Power Project.
