NHPC Celebrates 80th Independence Day
NHPC celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 at NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad, with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The programme commenced with the group singing of the National Song. Thereafter, Shri Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC, hoisted the National Flag, followed by the collective singing of the National Anthem. On the occasion, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects),Shri Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical), Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Director (Finance), Shri Paresh R. Ranpara, Director (Personnel), NHPC alongwith other senior officers and employees of the Corporation and their family members were present. Senior officers and employees of NHPC’s various Regional Offices, Power Stations, Projects and Units located across the country also joined the celebrations through live webcast.
On this occasion, Shri Bhupender Gupta extended Independence Day greetings to the entire NHPC family and highlighted the important role of the energy sector in achieving the goal of a Developed India. He said that energy security and energy self-reliance are the cornerstones of a Developed India and NHPC is playing an important role in providing reliable and clean energy to the nation. He stated that the responsibilities entrusted to NHPC in the areas of renewable energy, pumped storage and energy storage reflect the Government of India’s confidence in NHPC’s expertise and capabilities. He highlighted NHPC’s major achievements, particularly the commissioning of 1,000 MW capacity of the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project and the progress of the Dibang Multipurpose Project.
Highlighting the changing energy landscape of NHPC, Shri Gupta said that hydropower will continue to remain the core strength of the company, while pumped storage will be an important foundation of the future energy system, with solar and wind energy emerging as key pillars of growth. He also emphasised taking NHPC’s expertise to the global level through international business and consultancy. Underscoring NHPC’s commitment towards CSR and local communities, he said that the benefits of development should reach the communities residing in project areas.
Remembering the tragic Teesta-VI incident, he called for giving the highest priority to the safety of human life and strengthening a safe work culture across all workplaces. He said that safety must become an integral part of the work culture.
Highlighting the company’s strong financial and operational performance during FY 2025-26 and significant achievements during the first quarter of FY 2026-27, he said that the greatest strength of NHPC is its employees. He called upon employees to make safety, quality, integrity and excellence an integral part of the work culture.
Shri Gupta called upon the newly recruited young employees of NHPC to share their new ideas, perspectives and innovations with the organisation and put forward their suggestions before the management. He said that the fresh perspective and digital proficiency of young employees can play an important role in enabling NHPC to move forward in line with the changing technological landscape. He emphasised greater use of digital interventions, Artificial Intelligence and other modern technologies in the organisation, stating that the synergy between the knowledge and experience of senior employees and the fresh thinking and technological capabilities of young employees would make NHPC more capable and stronger for the future.
He called upon employees to make energy and water conservation a part of their daily work culture and to reduce the use of single-use plastic. He said that the participation of every employee is important in efforts towards energy conservation, water conservation and environmental protection.
Reiterating the commitment towards Viksit Bharat@2047, Shri Gupta said that NHPC will continue to play its role in energy security, energy self-reliance and clean energy development with full commitment, while maintaining a continuous focus on completing projects safely, within stipulated timelines and with high quality.
On the occasion of Independence Day, an exhibition titled ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Tiranga’ were also organised at the Corporate Office, showcasing their glorious journey and national significance. NHPC celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour across all its workplaces.
