Shri Diwakar Nath Misra is a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2000 batch from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre and is presently serving as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India.
With over two decades of distinguished public service, Shri Misra has extensive experience in public administration, policy formulation and institutional governance across critical sectors including Power, Finance, Commerce & Industry, Petroleum & Natural Gas and Defence. His senior leadership roles in the Government of India, complemented by his experience in grassroots administration in Assam, has equipped him with a strong understanding of governance and policy-making.

As Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, Shri Misra represented India at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), articulating India's stance and strategic priorities in the evolving framework of global financial governance. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, he spearheaded transformative policy and institutional reforms that strengthened India's agricultural exports ecosystem, enabling exports to cross the USD 1 billion milestone for the first time. As Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, he played a pivotal role in shaping and implementing key policy frameworks for the upstream hydrocarbon sector, including the Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP) and the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP), thereby facilitating greater exploration and development of India’s oil and gas resources and contributing towards the country’s pursuit of self-reliance in the sector.  He also represented on the Boards of Oil India Limited, Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited and Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited.

Shri Misra’s extensive experience in policy formulation, Board-level governance and understanding of the energy ecosystem will enable NHPC to leverage strategic and institutional expertise, further strengthening its position as a leading power sector enterprise.
