NHPC inks Memorandum of Agreement with Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh for Development of Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project (2000 MW) and Kamala Hydroelectric Project (1800 MW) in Arunachal Pradesh
Towards national determined contribution to nation to achieve clean & green energy target, NHPC has inked an Memorandum of Agreement with Government of Arunachal Pradesh on 12th August 2023 at Itanagar for Development of two hydroelectric projects in the State of Arunachal Pradesh with aggregate capacity of 3800 MW in the august presence of Shri R.K. Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Pema Khandu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and Shri Chowna Mein, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and Shri R.K. Vishnoi, CMD, NHPC. The MOAs were signed by Shri Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects), NHPC on behalf of NHPC. The other senior officers from NHPC and Power Department, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh were also present on the occasion.
The MOAs envisaged the development of two hydroelectric Projects namely Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project (2000 MW) and Kamala Hydroelectric Project (1800 MW). Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project is located in Upper Subansiri district, and Kamala Hydroelectric Project is to be constructed in Kamle district. The implementation of these two projects shall bring huge capital investment to the tune of Rs.43,000 crores in the State and shall annually generate about 12746 MU electricity.
The construction and operation of the said hydropower projects shall create significant employment opportunities in the region and boost the local economy as well as fosters skill development and technical expertise in the region. The implementation of the Hydropower projects represents a beacon of hope for a greener and more sustainable future of the State and can significantly reduce its carbon footprint.
NHPC Limited, a Schedule ‘A’ Enterprise of the Government of India with ‘MINI RATNA’ status, is ranked as a premier organization in India for development of hydropower with capabilities to undertake all the activities from conceptualization to commissioning of hydro projects, having operational capacity of 7097.20 MW comprising 6971.20 MW from 22 Hydro Power Stations, 76 MW from two Solar Power Project and 50 MW from a Wind Power Project. NHPC contributing about 15% of the country’s total installed Hydro capacity.
