NCST holds Review Meeting with NHPC on Constitutional Safeguards for Scheduled Tribes
The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) convened a review meeting with the NHPC SC/ST Employees Welfare Association and the NHPC Management on 22.08.2025 at NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad. Various key issues concerning the implementation of constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribe (ST) employees were discussed at length. The discussions focused on reservation policies at various levels, backlog vacancies, welfare initiatives, grievance redressal mechanisms and other employee-related matters.
The NCST delegation was led by Dr. Asha Lakra, Hon’ble Member, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes. Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary to Govt. of India, NCST, Shri Amit Nirmal, Joint Secretary, NCST, Shri Y.P. Yadav, Deputy Secretary and other senior officials from the commission were also present during the meeting. The meeting was convened in two sessions. The first session involved consultations with representatives of the NHPC SC/ST Employee Welfare Association, while the second session was held with the senior management of NHPC, wherein Shri R.P. Goyal, CMD, NHPC, Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC and other senior officers of NHPC were present.
During the meeting, Dr. Lakra urged the NHPC management to address the concerns raised by the NHPC SC/ST Employee Welfare Association and submit an Action Taken Report to the Commission. She emphasized the need to uphold the rights and welfare of Scheduled Tribe employees and to implement reservation policies, as mandated by constitutional provisions. The meeting underscored NCST’s commitment to ensuring the effective enforcement of constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribes in public sector undertakings.
