NHPC SIGNS AGREEMENTS FOR CIVIL WORKS OF URI-II AND CHAMERA-III PROJECTS |

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd. has finalized Contract Agreements for major Civil Works for the 240 MW Uri - II and the 231 MW Chamera Stage - III Hydroelectric Projects. The Corporation has signed the Agreements on 17th October, 2005 with M/s Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. at a contract price of Rs. 574.99 Crore for Civil Works Package of Uri - II and at a contract price of Rs. 504.87 Crore for Civil Works Package of Chamera - III. These Agreements have been signed at NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad, in the presence of Shri S.K. Garg CMD, Directors and other senior officers of the Corporation. Uri - II Project is being executed at a cost of Rs. 1724.29 Crore and Chamera - III is being executed at a cost of Rs. 1405.63 Crore. Both the Projects are being executed by NHPC as central sector projects with debt equity ratio of 70: 30. The equity is being given by the Centre in form of budgetary support and the balance funds are arranged by NHPC as a term loan. The 240 MW (4 x 60 MW) Uri - II Project is located on river Jhelum in Baramulla District of Jammu & Kashmir and envisages construction of a Concrete Gravity Dam of 50m height, a Power Channel of 700m length, Head Race Tunnel of 8.4m diameter with a length of 4275m, underground Power House consisting of 4 Units of 60 MW each. Tail Race Tunnel of the Project will be 8.4m in dia and 3775m in length. The Project is scheduled to be completed in 51 months time and will generate 1123 Million Units of energy annually. The 231 MW (3 x 77 MW) Chamera - III Project is located on river Ravi in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh and envisages construction of a Concrete Dam of 68m height, 8.2m dia Horseshoe shaped 340m long Diversion Tunnel, a 16 km long concrete lined Head Race Tunnel with 6.5m dia, 18m dia and 110m high Surge Shaft and underground Power House consisting of 3 Units of 77 MW each. The Project is scheduled to be completed in 60 months time and will generate 1108 Million Units of energy annually. **** |
