NARMADA HYDROELECTRIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION LTD. SYNCHRONIZES 
4TH UNIT OF INDIRA SAGAR PROJECT

 

Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC), a joint venture of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC) and the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, has successfully synchronized the fourth unit of Indira Sagar Project and linked with the grid. With this, the four 125 MW units of the Indira Sagar Project have been commissioned adding 500 MW of power, in a record time span of three months, which is the fastest for any hydroelectric project.

Indira Sagar Project is a multi purpose project situated at about 10 kms from Punasa Village of Khandwa District on Narmada River having an installed capacity of 1000 MW from which 2698 Million Units (MUs) of electricity shall be generated annually. Power House of the Project will house eight units of 125 MW each. All the eight generating units of Indira Sagar Project are expected to be commissioned by December 2004, five months ahead of schedule.

Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation Ltd. (a joint venture of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC) and the Govt of Madhya Pradesh) was set up on August 1, 2000 with the corporate office at Bhopal to construct, operate and maintain Indira Sagar project (1000 MW) and Omkareshwar Project (520 MW) on ownership basis and to complete the above projects in five years and seven years respectively. It is an ISO 9001 certified company having authorized share capital of Rs 3,000 crores and assets of Rs 2,297 crores. NHDC is committed to complete the Hydroelectric Project ahead of schedule. It is the largest organization for development of Hydropower in Madhya Pradesh.
