Indira Sagar Power Station – A Joint Venture

 Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation Ltd., a joint venture of NHPC and Government of Madhya Pradesh was set up in 2002 for execution of Indira Sagar Power Station (1000 MW) and Omkareshwar Project (520 MW) on river Narmada in Madhya Pradesh.  All the eight units of Indira Sagar Power Station (125 x 8) have been commissioned ahead of schedule.  During the period under review the power station generated 1331.94 million units of energy.  

Dhauliganga Project 

The Corporation has successfully spun Unit III & IV of 280 MW Dhauliganga Project in Uttaranchal.  Unit I & II are ready for spinning.

Project Commissioned during 2004-05

1.  Dulhasti HE Project (3x130MW) , J&K

  •  77.00 % of HRT lining have been completed.

  • All Electro- Mechanical and Hydro-Mechanical works are completed.

2. Sewa –II HE Project (3x40 MW), J&K

  • Diversion Tunnel completed and Sewa River has been diverted.

  • 72.90% Dam excavation completed.

  • 15.92% of HRT excavation completed.

  • Excavation of Power House almost completed.

  • HM and E&M works awarded.

3.  Teesta-V HE Project (510MW) , Sikkim

  • Main Dam concreting started and about 76750 cum poured during the year.

  • About 88% heading, 46% benching and 1375m lining, out of 17106m of HRT have been completed.

  • Heading Excavation of Faces-0, II VI and I and Benching excavation of Faces-0 and I completed.

  • Machine hall concreting of Unit-I, Generator Barrel concreting of Unit-II & III completed.

  • Assembly of Stator, Rotor, Turbine and Generator of Unit-I has been taken up and in progress.

  • Outfall structure of TRT-II & III completed and in TRT-I, is in progress.

  • Excavation of Intake structures, Branch HRT’S, Desilting Chamber-I and Lower Surge Gallery completed.

  • HM works of Pressure Shafts Liners, TRT’s and Desilting Chambers Gates has been taken up and is in progress.

4. Teesta Low Dam Project Stage-III (132MW), West Bengal

  • 1st Stage Diversion of River Teesta done on 20/12/2004 ahead of schedule.  The work on 2nd Stage Diversion is in active stage.

  • All major civil works started.  Excavation of Power House, Intakes, Water Conductor System and Tail Race Channel is in progress as per schedule.

  • E&M works and HM works packages have been awarded in July ’04 and Feb. ’05 respectively.

5. Parbati HE Project, Stage – II (4 x 200 MW), H.P

  • Coffer Dam completed.

  • Excavation of intake tunnels –I (168m), II (147m) & III (124m) completed.

  • Pilot excavation of Desilting chamber-I, II & III (205m each) completed.

  • Widening of Desilting chamber-III (195m) completed.

  • Excavation of branch HRT-I (132m) completed.

  • Excavation of adit-iv (382m) & adit-v (472m) of HRT completed.

  • Excavation of Penstock-I, II, III & IV (150m each) completed.

  • Top adit to Pressure Shaft valve house (406m) completed.

  • Horizontal portion of Pressure Shaft - bottom left (354m) completed.

  • Horizontal portion of Pressure shaft - bottom right (337m) completed

  • Adit-3A - Jiwa Nallah works (252m) completed.

  • Escape tunnel -Jiwa Nallah works (119m) completed.

  • Branch adit to feeder tunnel GOC - Jiwa Nallah (185m) completed.

  • 36.7% HRT excavation completed.

  • 54.7% Power House excavation completed.

  • 65.4% Dam excavation completed.

6. Subansiri (Lower) H.E. Project, A.P (2000 MW)

  • MOEF accorded final forest clearance on 12.10.2004.

  • Marking of area boundary pillars by forest department of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is in progress.

  • Both the major civil work contractors have mobilized their men and machinery.

  • Electro-mechanical work package awarded to M/s Alstom on 11th February 2005.

  • 335925 cum of Power House excavation has been completed.

  • 292500 cum of excavation at Inlet structure of Diversion Tunnel has been completed.

  • Infrastructure works are in progress.

  • Permanent Bridge over river Subansiri has been completed.

7.  Kambang Small H.E. Project, A.P (6 MW)

  • About 96% of Earthwork and 99% of Concreting completed. Erection of E&M equipment is in full swings. Works are in advance stage of Commissioning.

8.  Sippi Small H.E. Project, A.P (4 MW)

  • About 94% of Earth work and 54% of Concreting completed. Works are in advanced stage of Commissioning.

1. Omkareshwar H.E. Project (8 X 65 MW) M.P

  • 25.32% of Main Dam Concreting and 62.78% of Power House Concreting has been executed.

  • Erection of 1st stage embeded parts of draft tube gates in Unit # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 is in progress.

  • Erection of draft tube liner upto unit-4 completed.

2. Purulia Pumped Storage Scheme (900MW), W.B.

  • Supplementary PIB Memo has been circulated by MOP on 11.3.2005

  • PIB/CCEA under process.

  • Planning Commission has accorded in Principle approval on 31.3.2005

Pakal Dul (1000MW), J&K

  • Detailed investigation for preparation of DPR is in progress.

Bursar (1020 MW), J&K
  •   Detailed investigation for preparation of DPR is in progress.

Lakhwar Vyasi Multipurpose Project (420 MW), Uttaranchal

  • MOU signed on 01/11/03 between NHPC and Govt. of Uttaranchal for execution in the central sector through NHPC.

  • All the volume of revised DPR have been prepared but submission is awaited for want of confirmation regarding sharing the cost of project for irrigation from Govt of UP & drinking water from Govt of Delhi.

Kotli Bhel Projects (850 MW), Uttaranchal

  • MOU signed on 22/09/03 between NHPC and Govt. of Uttaranchal for implementation of three Projects.

  • F.R. of all three Projects submitted to CEA for commercial viability and the same have been accorded during the year. 

  • Site clearance Stage-II proposal has been submitted to MOEF on 25/2/05 and approval is expected shortly.   D.P.R. preparation is in active stage.  

Bav Project Stage-I (18 MW), Maharashtra

  • The matter is under process with MOP to close down the Project due to high Generation cost

Bav Project Stage-II (20 MW), Maharashtra

  • PPA has been signed with Govt. of Maharashtra for purchase of entire power generated from the Project.

  • Survey & Investigation and preparation of DPR in under process.

Devade (6 MW), Maharashtra

  • Survey and Investigation works are in progress for submission of Feasibility Report.

Subansiri Middle Project, A.P (1600 MW)

  • Sanction of Stage-II works by CPIB is held up due to decision by Arunachal Pradesh state government regarding declaration of forest area on upstream of Subansiri project as national park.

  • NHPC is pursuing the matter with MOEF

  • DPR is under preparation as advised by MOP.

Subansiri Upper Project, A.P (2000 MW)

  • Sanction of Stage-II works by CPIB is held up due to decision by Arunachal Pradesh state government regarding declaration of forest area on upstream of lower Subansiri project as national park and banning all dam construction activities in it, as recommended by IBWL

  • NHPC is pursuing the matter with MOEF

  • DPR is under Preparation as advised by mop.

Siang Lower Project, A.P (1600 MW)

  • MOEF accorded Site clearance Stage-II on 18.08.2004.

Siang Middle Project, A.P (1000 MW)

  • Detailed project report (DPR) submitted to CEA on 19.09.2003 for Techno-Economic clearance.

  • Environment clearance accorded by MOEF on 11.03.2005.

Siang  Upper Project, A.P (11000 MW)

  • Feasibility report is under preparation.

  • Site clearance (Stage-I) has been accorded by MOEF on 29.12.2003 subject to reduction in Dam height to avoid submergence of tuting monastery and Dihang-Dibang biosphere reserve.

Dibang Multipurpose Project , A. P (3000MW)

  •       MOWR has transferred the works of DPR to NHPC.

  •       DPR is under preparation.
