520 MW Omkareshwar Project of NHDC Limited in Madhya Pradesh dedicated to the Nation

 

Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power dedicating to the Nation through remote control, the 520 MW (8 x 65 MW) Omkareshwar Hydroelectric Project located in Siddhwarkut, Distt.Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh of NHDC (a Joint Venture of NHPC Limited and Govt of Madhya Pradesh) from Ministry of Power, Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi on 20.8.09 in the presence of Shri Bharatsinh Solanki (left), Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power and Shri S.K. Garg (right), CMD, NHPC Limited and NHDC Limited.

 

 

 

The 520 MW ( 8 x 65 MW) Omkareshwar Hydroelectric Project in Siddhwarkut, Distt.Khandwa of Madhya Pradesh , a Joint Venture of NHPC Limited and Government of Madhya Pradesh was dedicated to the Nation today by Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power through remote control from Ministry of Power, Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi.  Shri Bharatsinh Solanki, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power,  Shri S.K. Garg, CMD, NHPC Limited and NHDC Limited and senior officers from Ministry of Power were present on the occasion.

 

 

Speaking after dedicating the Project, Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power congratulated CMD, NHDC Ltd. and employees of NHDC for completing the Omkareshwar Project   4 months ahead of schedule. The Hon’ble Minister said that both Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar Projects of NHDC are examples for completing hydroelectric projects in a compressed schedule and hoped that in future also such feat will be achieved by NHDC. 

 

 

Shri Bharatsinh Solanki, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power said that the speed with which NHDC has completed Omkareshwar Project is commendable and congratulated all associated with the construction of the Project. 

 

 

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Shri S.K. Garg, Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC Limited and NHDC limited thanked the Hon’ble Union Minister of Power for dedicating the Omkareshwar Project to the Nation. He also thanked the   Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power for gracing the occasion with his benign presence. Shri Garg said that NHDC has fulfilled its mandate of commissioning two projects, viz. 1000 MW Indira Sagar Project and 520 MW Omkareshwar Project ahead of schedule. He said that NHDC is foraying into thermal power generation and also wind power generation. He thanked the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the people of Madhya Pradesh for the cooperation and support extended to NHDC, which resulted in the early completion of Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar Projects.  He also congratulated the entire team of NHDC, particularly the employees associated with the completion of Omkareshwar Project.

 

Proposing the vote of thanks, Shri K. M. Singh, Chief Executive Director, NHDC expressed his deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Union Minister of Power for dedicating the Omkareshwar Project to the Nation. He also thanked the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power for gracing the occasion. Shri K.M. Singh also thanked the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh for the cooperation extended to NHDC and also thanked the entire team of NHDC for the commendable work done by them without whose support this landmark achievement of early completion of the project would not have been possible. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The 520 MW Omkareshwar project is supplying power to the State of Madhya Pradesh. Annual generation from the Project is 1167 million units.  The major components of the Project are a 949 m long and 53 m high Concrete Gravity Dam with 23 nos. radial gates, 160 m long and 210 m wide Head Race Channel, 212 m long and 246 m wide Tail Race Channel and a Surface Power House with 8 generating units of 65 MW each. The Omkareshwar Project is a multipurpose Project, which offers opportunity of power generation and irrigation on both the banks of river Narmada in district Khandwa, Khargone and Dhar of Madhya Pradesh. The Project is situated 80 km from Indore and 40 km downstream of Indira Sagar Project. The sanctioned cost of the Project is Rs. 2,225 crore.

 

NHDC Limited is a Joint Venture of NHPC Limited and Government of Madhya Pradesh. The total installed capacity of NHDC is 1520 MW from 2 projects viz. 1000 MW Indira Sagar and 520 MW Omkareshwar Project in Narmada River Basin and NHDC is presently the largest hydropower producer in Madhya Pradesh. The authorized share capital of NHDC is Rs. 3,000 crore and paid up capital is Rs. 1962.58 crore.  NHDC has recently signed a MoU with Government of Madhya Pradesh for setting up of a supercritical technology based thermal power project of 1320 MW  (2 x 660 MW) capacity in Distt. Khandwa of Madhya Pradesh.  A 100 MW potential wind power site in Distt. Bettul of the State has also been allocated to NHDC. Recently, NHDC was awarded “Gold Shield” for early completion of Unit-I of Omkareshwar Project by Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Her Excellency the President of India. 

 

NHDC is committed to develop the hydropower and other renewable energy potential in Madhya Pradesh at a fast pace and generate cheap, clean and reliable power by adopting the latest technologies, developing power projects within planned gestation period, protecting environment, socio-economic upliftment and preserving ecology in all its aspects including planning, investigation, research, design and preparation of preliminary feasibility and detailed project reports, construction, operation and maintenance of hydroelectric power stations and projects and sale of power generated at hydroelectric stations.
