PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS DURING 2009-10

 

  • Achieved highest ever Net Profit after Tax of Rs 2,090.50 crore which is 94.43% higher than the net profit after Tax of Rs. 1,075.22 crore earned during 2008-09.

 

  • Achieved an all time high sales turnover of Rs 4,218.90 crore which is 57.90% higher than the last year sales turnover of Rs 2,671.85 crore.

 

  • Achieved all time high sales realization of Rs 3,603.93 crore which is 48.90% more than the previous year’s realization of Rs 2,420.36 crore.

 

  • NHPC launched its IPO (Initial Public Offer) in August 2009 which was oversubscribed by almost 24 times with bid of more than Rs. 1,40,000 crore and more than 13 lakh applications.  After successful conclusion of its IPO, NHPC became a listed company on both NSE & BSE w.e.f. 1st September 2009. 

 

  • Generated 16960 Million Units (MUs) against the target of 16381 million units for “Very Good” MoU rating, despite a weak monsoon during the year.

 

  • Achieved 84% Plant Availability Factor (PAF) for the operating Power Stations against the MoU target of 80% for “Excellent” rating. 

 

  • Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power dedicated NHPC’s 510 MW Teesta Stage-V Power Station in Sikkim to the Nation.

 

  • Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power dedicated the 520 MW Omkareshwar Hydroelectric Project of NHDC - a Joint Venture of NHPC and Government of Madhya Pradesh to the Nation.

 

  • Incorporated a Joint Venture Company viz. “Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation Limited” for execution of the 66 MW Loktak Downstream Project in Manipur with a share holding of 74 % by NHPC and 26 % by Government of Manipur.

 

  • Signed MoU with SJVN Limited and Govt. of Manipur for formation of a Joint Venture Company for implementation of the 1500 MW Tipaimukh Hydroelectric (Multipurpose) Project in Manipur. NHPC, SJVNL and Govt. of Manipur shall have a share holding of 69%, 26% and 5% respectively.

 

  • Signed Agreement with Royal Government of Bhutan for providing engineering & consultancy services for the pre-construction activities of Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project (720 MW) in Bhutan.

 

  • Signed Agreements for preparation of DPRs of Chamkharchhu-I (670 MW) and Kuri-Gongri (1800 MW) H.E. Projects in Bhutan with the Royal Government of Bhutan.

 

  • Signed Agreements for taking up Additional Investigations and Preparation of Updated Detailed Project Reports for 1200 MW Tamanthi H.E. Project and 642 MW Shwezaye H.E. Project in Myanmar as consultancy assignments.

 

  • Signed implementation agreement with Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh for India’s largest hydroelectric project, the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower project.

 

  • Signed MoU with M/s Transparency International India for implementation of “Integrity Pact”.  

 

  • Submitted DPRs of 600 MW Tawang-I & 800 MW Tawang-II in Arunachal Pradesh and 520 MW Teesta-IV in Sikkim to CEA for concurrence. CEA has accorded concurrence for Teesta-IV Project on 13th May 2010.

 

  • Received Environmental clearance for preconstruction activities for Teesta-IV (520 MW), Dibang Multipurpose Project (3000 MW) and Kwar (520 MW).

 

  • Teesta-V Power Station of NHPC has been successfully validated under Voluntary Emission Reduction scheme.

 

  • Completed implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software solution within the organization to efficiently manage the optimum utilization of generating assets and expeditious implementation construction projects.

 

  • Adopted 08 more ITIs (4 in J&K, 3 in Uttarakhand and 1 in Arunachal Pradesh) under National Skill Development Mission in addition to the 03 ITIs adopted earlier.

 

  • 98.22% of the employees relating to Operation & Maintenance of Power Stations trained during 2009-10 against the MoU target of 95% for excellent rating.

 

  • Electrified 2700 villages and provided electricity connections to 6 lakh BPL families under Rajeev Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana.

Annual Review 2009-10

 

Incorporated in 1975, NHPC Limited, formerly known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd, a MINIRATNA Category-I Enterprise of Government of India is actively involved in construction of hydroelectric Projects in various parts of the country and generation of power. Today, NHPC supplies the much needed peaking power especially to the Northern and Eastern parts of the country. NHPC has become a listed company on NSE & BSE w.e.f. 01.9.2009. NHPC has a market cap of Rs 36,000 crore, an investment base of Rs 37,000 crore and net worth of Rs 23,600 crore approx. The authorized share capital of the company is Rs 15,000 crore.

 

Net Profit:  

 

The company achieved highest ever net Profit after Tax of Rs 2,090.50 crore which is 94.43% higher than the net profit after Tax of Rs 1,075.22 crore earned during 2008-09. Sales & Revenue Realization:

 

The sales turnover of Rs 4,218.90 crore achieved during the year is   higher than the previous year’s sales of Rs 2,671.85 crore, thereby registering an increase of 57.90%. NHPC also achieved all time high sales realization of Rs 3,603.93 crore which is 48.90% higher than the previous year’s realization of Rs 2,420.36 crore.

 

Operating Power Stations & Power Generation:

 

Currently, NHPC  operates 13 hydropower stations with a total aggregate capacity of 5175 MW which includes 1000 MW Indira Sagar Project and 520 MW Omkareshwar Project through NHDC Limited - a subsidiary JV of NHPC with Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP). NHPC generated 16960 Million Units (MUs) from its own Power Stations against the target of 16381 million units for “Very Good” MoU rating despite weak monsoon during the year. The operating Power Stations of the company achieved Plant Availability Factor (PAF) of 84.1% against the MoU target of 79.89 % for “Excellent” rating. Tanakpur, Chamera-I, Uri, Dhauliganga, Dul Hasti and Teesta-V Power Stations achieved higher generation than the targets.

 

Projects under Construction:

 

11 projects having aggregate installed capacity of 4622 MW are under active construction. With the commissioning of these projects, NHPC would become a 9500 MW company likely by 2013. (Details of the projects is enclosed at Annexure-A). 

 

Projects under Government Clearance:

NHPC is actively pursuing clearances from Government of India for several hydro projects having aggregate capacity of 9631 MW. Out of these, seven projects with aggregate capacity of 5965 MW are planned to be implemented by NHPC on its own. Other projects are planned for implementation through Joint Venture route namely 66 MW Loktak Downstream with Govt. of Manipur, another three projects with  aggregate capacity of about 2100 MW in Jammu & Kashmir with Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir and 1500 MW Tipaimukh Project in Manipur with SJVN Limited and Govt. of Manipur as partners. (Details of the Projects enclosed at Annexure-A).

 

Initial Public Offer (IPO): 

 

NHPC has not taken any budgetary support from Government of India since April, 2007 to meet its equity requirement. The company launched its IPO (Initial Public Offer) in August, 2009 which was oversubscribed by almost 24 times. After successful conclusion of its IPO, NHPC became a listed company on both NSE & BSE w.e.f. 1st Sept 2009. The Company raised Rs 6038.55 crore through its IPO out of which Rs 4025.70 crore is available against sale proceeds of 10 percent fresh equity.

 

Capital Expenditure:

 

The Capex plan of NHPC for the year 2009-10 was Rs 3,763 crore and that for 2010-11 is about Rs 4,900 crore. The overall Capex for XI plan period stands at Rs 21,600 crore which will be met through internal resources, subordinate debt from Government of India, market borrowings and proceeds from IPO.

 

XI Plan Projects:

 

NHPC has planned to add 5322 MW during the XI Plan period (4292 MW from NHPC Projects and 1030 MW by NHDC, a Joint Venture with Madhya Pradesh Government). During the current plan, so far NHPC has added 1030 MW ( 510 MW Teesta V Power Station in Sikkim and 520 MW Omkareshwar Project of NHDC in Madhya Pradesh). NHPC is all set to add another 120 MW shortly (by June, 2010) with the commissioning of Sewa-II Project in Jammu & Kashmir. Construction work on the remaining projects is in full swing. 

 

Joint Venture:

 

A Joint Venture Company viz. “Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation Limited” has been registered for execution of the 66 MW Loktak Downstream Project in Manipur with a share holding of 74% by NHPC and 26% by  Government of Manipur.

 

Recently, a MoU has been signed amongst NHPC, SJVN Limited and Govt. of Manipur for formation of a Joint Venture Company for implementation of the 1500 MW Tipaimukh Hydroelectric (Multipurpose) Project in Manipur. NHPC, SJVN Limited and Govt. of Manipur shall have a share holding of 69%, 26% and 5% respectively. The Tipaimukh Project is situated in the Churachandpur District of Manipur on river Barak. The Project,  with an estimated cost of Rs.8,139 crore at September, 2008 price level  would annually generate 3806 million units of power and is scheduled to be completed in a period of 87 months from the CCEA approval date.

 

NHPC is in the process of forming a Joint Venture with JKSPDC and PTC for executing1000 MW Pakal Dul and two other hydroelectric projects with aggregate installed capacity of about 2100 MW in Chenab River Basin in Jammu & Kashmir.

 

Overseas assignments:

 

The expertise available with NHPC is being utilized in the area of hydropower development in countries like Bhutan, Myanmar and Tajikistan. The Company plans to continue expanding its international operations and help in harnessing the hydropower potential available internationally by leveraging its existing relationships and goodwill earned through past consultancy assignments. Ministry of Power, Government of India has worked out an 'Action Plan' for hydropower development of 10000 MW in Bhutan by the year 2020 in line with the announcement of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India in Bhutan. Pursuant to the 'Action Plan', NHPC has signed agreements with Royal Government of Bhutan for preparation of DPRs of Chamkharchhu- I (670 MW) and Kuri Gongri (1800 MW) H.E. Projects in Bhutan. The work is progressing as per schedule and the DPRs for both the projects are scheduled to be submitted by December, 2011. NHPC has successfully submitted the DPR for 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydro Power Project to the Royal Govt. of Bhutan two months ahead of schedule.  Recently an Agreement has been signed  with Department of Energy, Royal Govt. of Bhutan for providing Engineering and Consultancy services relating to pre-construction activities of the 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan. NHPC has been entrusted with additional investigations and preparation of updated DPRs for 1200 MW Tamanthi and 642 MW Shwezaye Hydroelectric Projects in Myanmar, as consultancy assignments. Earlier NHPC was assigned the task of reviewing the feasibility reports of these projects prepared by other consultants.

 

Diversification:

 

NHPC is committed to maintain a leading position in hydro sector and also expand its business domain. The company is foraying into thermal power business through its subsidiary company NHDC which has been entrusted with setting up of a 1320 MW Revapur thermal power project in Khandwa district by Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP). Another thermal power project of 1320 MW at Shahpura in Jabalpur district has also been offered to NHDC by GoMP, for which NHDC has given its consent. Besides, NHDC has also been allocated site by GoMP for 100 MW Wind Power Project in the Kukru Region of district Betul.

 

Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) & Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) :

 

The Company has been entrusted with Rural Electrification works under Rajiv   Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) – the flagship programme of Govt. of India. The works are spread over 27 districts in the States of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa and West Bengal which covers electrification of 31909 villages and providing service connections to 20.80 lakh BPL households at an awarded cost of about Rs 2,450 crore. During 2009-10, NHPC electrified 8092 villages (2701 nos Un-electrified / De-electrified and 5391 nos Partially Electrified villages) and provided service connections to 6.03 lakh BPL households. Till March 31st, 2010 NHPC had electrified 13521 villages (5965 Un-electrified / De-electrified and 7556 nos Partially Electrified villages) and provided service connections to 8.8 lakh BPL households. NHPC has also been entrusted with construction of rural roads and their maintenance under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in six districts of Bihar namely East Champaran, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi and Vaishali. Sanction has been received for construction of 832 nos. of roads with length totaling to 3517 kms at a total cost Rs 1921 crore. During 2009-10, 598 kms of road were completed and cumulative progress is 1548 kms till March 31st, 2010.

 

Quality Management:

 

Almost all NHPC Power Stations have Certifications for Quality Management System ISO 9001, Environment Management System ISO 14001 and Occupational Health and Safety Management System OHSAS 18001. During 2009-10 NHPC obtained Certification of ISO 9001:2008 for the Corporate Office, one Power Station and one Regional Office. Certification of ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 were also achieved for one Power Station and one Regional Office. NHPC was also given the Certification for Integrated Management System (IMS) for four Power Stations and one Regional Office.

Framing of Risk Management Policy:

 

A “Risk Management Policy” has been formulated with reference to clause 49 of the listing agreement of SEBI. The main objective of this policy is to ensure protection of shareholder’s value through the establishment of an integrated Risk management Framework for identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring, evaluating and reporting of all risks, to provide clear and strong basis for informed decision making at all levels of the organization.

 

Consultancy Services

 

NHPC is providing consultancy services in various fields of hydro power viz. river basin studies, survey works, design and engineering, geological studies, geotechnical studies, hydraulic transients studies, hydrological studies, contract management, construction management, equipment planning, under ground construction, testing, commissioning, operation & maintenance etc. to leading organizations of the country. NHPC is registered with World Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Central Water Commission, and Consultancy Development Centre as a Consultant in the area of Hydropower. Major consultancy assignments include assignments from Central and State Government agencies in India including State Electricity Boards and Public Sector Undertakings.

 

As on 31st March 2010, 79 consultancy assignments have been completed and 17 assignments are ongoing. During 2009-10 new assignments amounting to Rs. 55.71 crore and payments amounting to Rs. 57.10 crore have been received. The organizations to whom consultancy services are currently being given include Andaman & Nicobar Administration, KRCL, Ministry of External Affairs (for hydro projects in Union of Myanmar, Tajikistan and Deptt. of Energy, Royal Govt. of Bhutan), PIDB, PGCIL, WBREDA, WBPDCL, Athena Demwe Power Pvt. Ltd. NHPC has earlier given consultancy services to BBMB, BSHPC, CEA, CSEB, CWC, DVC, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Govt. of Bihar, Govt. of Goa, Govt. of Mizoram, Govt. of Nagaland, KPA, KSEB, LAHDC, Northern Railways, NTPC, REC, THPA, SJVNL, THDC, UJVNL, CES, ICICI, IFCI and Jaiprakash Hydro Power Ltd.

 

IT & Communication

 

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software solution has been implemented within the organization to efficiently manage the optimum utilization of generating assets and expeditious implementation of construction projects. After initial implementation of ERP in 2008-09 at Corporate Office, during 2009-10 ERP has been rolled out across 30 locations comprising of all Regional Offices, Power Stations and Projects. The scope of ERP includes modules as Energy Sales Accounting, Project Monitoring, Power Plant Operation, HR, Finance, Procurement etc. Employee Compensation and Employee Self Service functions are also being performed in ERP.

 

To support ERP, IT&C infrastructure has been strengthened considerably during the year. Various Power Stations/ Projects have been connected through MPLS-VPN links and Ku-band based VSAT link. New ERP servers have been commissioned in enterprise class   TIER-III Data Centre of NICSI at Delhi and Disaster Recovery (DR) site has been operationalized at its Regional Office at Kolkata.           

 

ERP has been highly beneficial for NHPC and is being successfully utilized for several key operations and functions. These include annual closure for FY 2009-10 for 30 locations (including all Power Stations, Projects, Corporate Office and Regional Offices), reduction in time for generation of Energy Bills from 2-3 days to 2-3 hours, synchronization of stores and PSL in real time, standardization of formats and processes, universal codification for materials, assets and suppliers, centralization of activities, reduction of paper work, online tracking of bills, payments etc.        

 

Research & Development activities

 

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM): NHPC has taken various steps to avail benefits under CDM as well as other carbon trading initiatives like Voluntary Emission Reductions (VERs). During 2009-10 Teesta Stage-V Power Station of NHPC has been successfully validated under VERs Scheme as a result of which emission reduction of 204.4 crore tonne CO2 is most likely to be achieved within the 10 years renewable crediting period. In addition, Seven Projects under different stages of Construction, namely Sewa-II, Uri-II, Chamera-III, Parbati-II & III, TLDP-III & IV have been processed under Voluntary Emission Reduction scheme. Five Projects under different Stages of Clearances / Construction, namely Kotli Bhel-1A, IB & II, Dibang & Kishanganga are being processed for Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).

 

Two medium sized hydroelectric projects of NHPC namely 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo and 44 MW Chutak located in J&K state have already been registered by CDM Executive Board of UNFCCC resulting into anticipated revenue generation amounting to Rs 17 crore annually.

 

·         Computational Fluid Dynamics: Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) Lab in NHPC, Corporate Office has been successfully established to analyze the flow pattern in the water conductor system. CFD analysis of penstock of two power stations has been completed during the year.

 

·         National Perspective Plan on R&D: A MoU has been signed with CPRI Bengaluru during March 2010 for carrying out research under National R&D Project on “Tunneling in water charged zone area under high hydro static pressure”. With the out come of the above research, NHPC will be able to work out a methodology for speedy & safe tunneling in water charged areas under high hydrostatic pressure.

 

Human Resource Development:

 

98.22% of the employees relating to Operation & Maintenance of Power Stations were trained during 2009-10 against the MoU target of 95% for excellent rating. 

 

A cordial and harmonious industrial relations atmosphere prevailed in the organization and no man day was lost due to strike or any other incidence.  

 

NHPC has taken several initiatives for developing its human resource, which includes establishing Learning Joint Ventures (LJVs) with premier academic institutes like  IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Delhi, IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Calcutta, IIM-Kozhikode, IIM-Indore, IIM-Lucknow, MDI-Gurgaon, IMT-Ghaziabad, ISB-Hyderabad, ASCI-Hyderabad, CPRI-Bangalore, NCB-Ballabhgarh,  ISM-Dhanbad, National Water Academy (NWA)-Pune etc. Also, training and development programmes are conducted through reputed manufactures like ABB, Areva (T&D), Alstom, VA –Tech, BHEL, Siemens etc for keeping the employees updated with the state-of-the-art technologies. 

 

NHPC is also actively engaged in the National Skill Development Mission of Government of India by working in close collaboration with the State Governments of Uttarakhand, J&K, Arunachal, Sikkim etc. NHPC has adopted 08 more ITIs in 2009-10 in addition to the 03 ITIs adopted earlier. Out of these 08 ITIs, four are in Jammu & Kashmir, three are in Uttarakhand and one is in Arunachal Pradesh. NHPC has brought about significant improvement in the functioning of the ITIs by providing master training to the Instructors and trainees, conceptualizing and implementing a unique NHPC Merit Scholarship scheme for the trainees and effecting infrastructural improvement by taking up civil works, providing generators for better power supply, vehicles for workshop practice, books and Computer Based Training (CBT) packages for the library etc.

 

NHPC has also imparted vocational training to about 650 students from different parts of the country as part of its initiatives to develop industry awareness among the youth of today.

 

Corporate Social Responsibility

 

NHPC, with its continued commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethical behaviour, has contributed to the economic development and improving the quality of life of internal as well as external stakeholders and the Society at large. NHPC has undertaken a number of CSR-CD initiatives in the areas of Health, Education, Peripheral Development, Sports & Culture, development of Employment opportunities, Preservation of Nature etc. for the community living in and around the Power Stations and Construction Projects. Various other Initiatives have also been undertaken like Creation of Herbal Parks with Medicinal Value, large scale Afforestation, Catchment Area Treatment (CAT), Fisheries Management, Vocational Training Programmes, Medical Camps, Development of Infrastructural facilities etc. More importantly NHPC has empowered millions of rural poor in the surrounding communities through Education, Vocational Training Programmes, Adult education Programmes, Health Care, promoting Sports & Culture etc. which have led to large scale socio-economic development in the vicinity of various NHPC Power stations/ projects.

 

Projects under Construction

 

Construction activities on the following 11 projects with a total installed capacity of 4622 MW are in full swing.

 

1.         Sewa H.E. Project Stage-II (120 MW), Jammu & Kashmir

·         Dam Concreting, Head Race Tunnel (HRT) excavation and lining completed.

·         Boxing up of all the three units and spinning completed.

·         The project is expected to be commissioned in June, 2010.  

 

2.     Chamera H.E. Project Stage-III (231MW), Himachal Pradesh

·         74% Dam Concreting completed.

·         HRT excavation and 72% overt lining completed.

·         Excavation of Vertical Pressure shaft and Surge Shaft completed.

·         Excavation of Power House completed and concreting under progress.

·         Erection of generator and Turbine in unit – 1 is in progress.

·         The Project is expected to be commissioned by December, 2010.

 

3.         Nimoo Bazgo H.E. Project (45MW), Jammu & Kashmir

·         Excavation of Dam and 70% concreting completed.

·         Excavation of Power House and 22% concreting completed.

·         Erection of EOT Crane in Service Bay has been completed and Draft Tube Liner has been erected in Units - 1, 2 & 3.

·         Penstock liner erection of unit 1& 2 completed.

·         Due to onset of adverse climatic condition of winter and delay in supply, there will be some delay in commissioning of the project.

·         The Project is expected to be commissioned by December, 2010.

 

4.         Chutak H.E. Project (44MW), Jammu & Kashmir

·         Barrage & Power House excavation completed and concreting is in progress.

·         HRT excavation completed and lining is in progress.

·         Power house excavation completed & 29% concreting completed.

·         Other Design, Engineering & Fabrication works are in progress.

·         The project is expected to be completed by February, 2011.

 

5.         Teesta Low Dam H.E. Project Stage-III (132 MW), West Bengal

·         During flash floods in May 2009, entire work area got flooded causing a severe setback to the progress of works and delaying the completion of Project.

·         Presently Concreting of Barrage 1-2 in progress.

·         97% concreting of Power house completed and boxing up of Unit-1 in progress.

·         The Project is expected to be completed by February, 2011.

 

6.         Uri H.E. Project Stage-II (240 MW), Jammu & Kashmir

·         Dam excavation & concreting completed. HRT and Power House excavation completed and concreting under progress.

·         TRT excavation almost completed and overt lining in progress.

·         Erection of EOT Crane in Service Bay and in Unit-1, 2 & 3 has been completed.

·         Other Design & Engineering and fabrication of E&M (Electrical& Mechanical) and HM (Hydro Mechanical) works are in progress. 

·         The project is expected to be commissioned by February, 2011.

 

7.         Parbati H.E. Project Stage-III (520MW), Himachal Pradesh

·         Excavation for Rockfill Dam and 67% dam rockfilling completed.

·         92% excavation of Spillway completed.

·         96% excavation of HRT completed and lining in progress.

·         In Tail Race Tunnel (TRT) concreting is in progress.

·         Power House excavation completed.

·         The project is expected to be completed by June, 2011.

8.      Teesta Low Dam H.E. Project Stage-IV (160MW), West Bengal

·         The start of major civil works was delayed due to delay in forest clearance.

·         Heavy floods in July’07 & May’09 caused setback to progress of project.

·         Excavation for Dam Spillway, Power Dam and L/B NOF Energy Dissipaters 99% completed.

·         Concreting of spillway glacis completed and of Dam pier 86% completed.

·         Excavation of Power House completed.

·         Erection of EOT crane in progress in service bay.

·         The project is expected to be commissioned by August, 2011.

 

 

9.       Subansiri Lower H.E. Project (2000 MW), Arunachal Pradesh.

·         14% Dam concreting completed.

·         Excavation of Horizontal & vertical Pressure Shaft is in progress.

·         In Jan.’08, Power House backhill slope failed which necessitated change in design and Surge Chamber has now been replaced with eight inclined Surge Tunnels. Slope treatment in Power House is under progress.

·         65% HRT excavation completed and overt lining is also under progress.

·         The project is expected to be commissioned by Dec. 2012.

10.    Parbati H.E Project Stage-II (800 MW), Himachal Pradesh

·         73% Dam and Intake structure concreting has been completed.

·         In HRT, 83% excavation and concrete lining of 41% length have been completed.

·         During Nov.’06 in HRT face-4, the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) was partly buried due to heavy ingress of silt and water, causing total stoppage of work. For resumption of TBM face of HRT, treatment of fault zone ahead of TBM face is in progress. Modification of TBM is also in progress. 

·         Excavation of both Inclined Pressure Shafts has been completed and lining in progress.

·         At Power House, Back hill Slope treatment is likely to be completed by Nov’ 10.

·         Concreting of Power House is planned to resume from June’10.

·         The Project is to be completed by March, 2013.

 

11.        Kishanganga H.E. Project (330 MW), Jammu & Kashmir

·         Enlargement of Diversion Tunnel is in progress and total 536 m enlargement has been completed.

·         Excavation of 532 m of Adit-1 completed.

·         Excavation of TBM Adit is in progress and 32 m excavation has been completed.

·         MAT excavation is in progress & HRT face-1&2 excavations started.

·         The Project is expected to be commissioned by January, 2016.

During the year 2009-10 NHPC received various prestigious awards. Some of the important awards are enlisted below:

 

·         Shri Sushilkumar Shinde Hon’ble Union Minister of Power conferred to NHPC the Second Prize in the ‘Office Buildings Sector’ for the year 2009 under the National Energy Conservation Awards in recognition of NHPC’s commendable efforts in Electricity Saving at its Corporate Office building through usage of Energy Saving Appliances and Proper Power Management.

 

·         ‘Performance Excellence Award’ by the Mumbai-based Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE) in recognition of its excellence in every sphere of operation starting from conceptualization to commissioning of Hydro Power Projects for the year 2007-08.

 

·         Conferred with “Business Excellence Award” instituted by the Institute of Economic Studies, New Delhi in recognition of the commendable performance and pioneering role in hydro power development in India.

 

·         Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi conferred the ‘Mahavir International Award’ instituted by Mahavir International, New Delhi in recognition of its achievements in the field of hydro power development.

 

·         Conferred the “Amity HR Excellence Award for Best Socio-Economic Responsive Organization” for the year 2009 by Amity International Business School, NOIDA in due recognition of its Best HR practices.

 

·         Conferred the “Jury Award” by Council of Power Utilities, New Delhi in association with KW Conferences for large scale implementation of Hydro Projects over the years.
